A Legacy of Commerce
In the late 1800s, the Manchester Trail represented something remarkable: the only westward route from St. Louis that didn't require crossing the Meramec, Mississippi, or Missouri Rivers.
This strategic advantage made the trailβand later Manchester Roadβthe preferred route for commerce and settlement. As Brentwood Boulevard developed along this corridor, it naturally became a center for retail, dining, and services.
The historic settlement of Maddenville flourished here in the 1920s, establishing patterns of development that continue today.
